Twenties and Thirties  • Infantry Uniform between the wars

It was peacetime but this regiment was fighting on the North West Frontier of India
This is the same uniform as worn in the Great War.
By 1923 lower ranks in most regiments had adopted regimental buttons and were wearing collar badges.
The soldier on the left is wearing Norfolk Regiment buttons and shoulder titles on a khaki drill tunic.

The Norfolk Regiment became the Royal Norfolk Regiment in 1935. The cap badge changed, so did the shoulder titles and buttons.Royal Norfolk button
The soldier on the right is wearing these new items.

With most Regiments the collar badges and buttons will be the only clue that the photograph dates from between the wars.
