Twenties • The Bandeau

Fashion for young women from about 1920 to 1926
The distinctive bandeau, which is after all only a strip of cloth tied around the head, has become an icon of twenties style.

It is ideal headwear for an era of short hairstyles and is an item of what would now be called street fashion which can be adopted at little cost by groups of girls.
The Brow-band, which when it appeared at the end of the Great war was little more than a hair ribbon, developed into the Bandeau.
The Bandeau was basically just a wider version of the browband. In fact a slightly widened browband was worn by those, who perhaps saw the Bandeau as too ostentaciousshowy

The influence of the Women tennis stars of Wimbledon contributed greatly to the popularity.
