The fashion for these hats and the Pompadour hairstyle continued from the Victorian age into the Edwardian.
They were worn high on the head and heavily decorated with fabric, feathers or imitation flowers or fruit. As a general rule felt hats were worn in winter and straw hats in summer.
Lavish hat decoration did not continue into the second half of Edwardian times. You should not see picture hats worn after the high necked blouse fell from favour. As decoration decreased, width of hats increased to produce the Cartwheel hat.
